About

The animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender takes place in a fantasy world. Humanity is divided into 4 main nations: the Air Nomads, the Fire Nation, the Earth Kingdom, and the Water Tribe. There are also 4 spirits corresponding to air, water, earth, and fire. Benders from each nation can control one of these elemental forces. An Avatar, however, has mastery over all 4 forces. With this ability, Avatars prevent war by maintaining balance among the nations. The Fire Nation takes advantage of the fact that the Avatar of the era has been missing for 100 years and declares war on all nations. Meanwhile, elderly monks at the Southern Air Temple reveal to a 12 year old boy named Aang that he is the Avatar. Now the world has an Avatar who can stand against the Fire Nation.
